Hereditary cancer screening panel (CancerNext-Expanded +RNAinsight)
Cancer is a serious disease that can affect both men and women which is caused by genetic mutations. Many mutations happen by chance and others are thought to be caused by lifestyle and environmental factors. Other mutations, however, are passed down through the family and can be related to hereditary cancer. Cancer risk screening can prevent cancer and reduce the death rate from cancer. Detecting the risk of cancer will be able to prevent cancer and if detected in the early stages, the cancer can be completely cured. Cancer genetic testing can also reduce various complications and the spread of cancer with targeted treatments.
What is Cancer genetic testing?
Genetic testing is the use of medical tests to look for certain mutations (changes) in a person’s genes. Many types of genetic tests are used today, and more are being developed. Genetic testing can be used in many ways, but here we’ll focus on how it is used to look for gene changes that are linked to cancer. To be used for prevention or treatment planning in cancer patients precisely.
Package information
CancerNext-Expanded +RNAinsight is a genetic test that includes 77 genes that are linked to an increased lifetime risk for one or more cancers and/or tumor types, including breast, ovarian, uterine, colorectal, kidney, prostate, brain, and others. Paired RNA/DNA genetic with +RNAinsight analyzes functional RNA data to help classify DNA variants. It also identifies deep-intronic mutations that are undetected with a DNA-only testing approach. As a result, patients suspected of hereditary cancer can receive a clearer diagnosis and more clinically actionable information.
How Genetic Testing Can Impact You and Your Family?
- Your test results may help your healthcare provider fine-tune your cancer screening plan, including the type, timing (age) of your initial screening, and its frequency.
- Based on your results, your healthcare provider may review possible cancer prevention options with you, such as preventive, or prophylactic, surgery that can reduce the risk for certain cancers.
- Your doctor can also identify and discuss other personalized medical management options that might be appropriate based on your genetic test results.
How is genetic testing performed and how long does it take?
Genetic testing requires a blood sample, which is collected using a special kit that is shipped to Ambry Genetics by your healthcare provider. The testing, which looks for mutations that cause an increased risk for cancer, takes about three weeks to complete, and results are sent to your healthcare provider.
